Melika Ronnie Recognised for Outstanding Commitment at the Keith Fletcher Memorial Prize Awards

We are immensely proud to celebrate the achievement of Melika Ronnie, a LASER learner from Milton Keynes College, who has been Highly Commended in the Outstanding Commitment to Study category at the prestigious Keith Fletcher Memorial Prize awards. This recognition highlights Melika’s dedication, resilience, and exceptional commitment to her Access to Higher Education (HE) studies.

The national Keith Fletcher Memorial Prizes, awarded at the House of Commons, honour the achievements of four Access to HE students who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance and commitment to their studies. The awards, supported by all nine Access Validating Agencies (AVAs) including LASER, shine a light on the transformative power of adult learning and the inspiring journeys of students across England and Wales.

Whilst no Access learner’s journey is an easy one, Melika’s journey has been one of particularly outstanding determination and perseverance. Reflecting on her achievement, she said:

“Receiving this award means a lot to me as I have faced many challenges throughout my student life, trying to fit into the typical education system. I’ve often felt that I wasn’t able to ‘reach my full potential,’ as many teachers had told me when I was younger. This recognition, particularly given the recent difficulties I’ve faced, has provided the validation I needed and shown me how resilient and committed I truly am. This will undoubtedly support me in my midwifery degree as I continue to strive to do and be better.”

The Outstanding Commitment to Study award is given to students who have shown extraordinary dedication, often overcoming personal challenges to excel in their studies. Melika’s story is a testament to the power of perseverance and the life-changing opportunities that education provides.

We could not be prouder of Melika and her incredible achievement. Her success not only reflects her hard work but also serves as an inspiration to other students embarking on their Access to HE journey. We wish her all the best as she continues her studies in midwifery.

Congratulations, Melika!
