Overview

LASER’s ‘Assessing’ qualifications were developed in conjunction with Lifelong Learning UK. The Education and Training Foundation has now assumed the responsibility to oversee the continuing development of the qualifications via its strategic partnerships.

The qualifications support practitioners in acquiring the knowledge, understanding and skills that underpin occupational competence in assessing and confer qualified status in the area to which the qualification title refers.

The recommended number of guided learning hours is between 24 and 84 hours, depending on the qualification chosen. The qualifications are ‘nested’ (and nested with LASER’s ‘Internal Quality Assurance’ qualifications) allowing successful candidates to opt to use credit they have achieved in one qualification to contribute towards the achievement of a second qualification – where there is an overlap between the qualifications at unit level.

Key Benefits

  • Designed for teachers and assessors who are required to assess learning

  • Can be used as initial training or CPD

  • The qualifications attract 8 UCAS points*

  • No practice requirement when undertaking the LASER Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment

  • Nested qualifications – learners can build on previous achievement within the suite

  • Developed in conjunction with the ETF.

  • * Universities and colleges set their own entry requirements and do not have to accept a qualification simply because it is included in the UCAS Tariff tables.
