Qualification Focus: Gardening for Pleasure
This Month’s Focus: Gardening for PleasureSpring is now within touching distance, a season...
Spring is now within touching distance, a season synonymous with renewal, growth, and transformation. As the days grow longer and the weather begins to warm, now is the perfect time to encourage outdoor learning while enhancing independent living skills. Our Gardening for Pleasure units are perfect to add to your Independent Living Suite for the upcoming season. LASER offers 3 units from Entry 1 to Entry 3, supporting learners of all abilities to plant their seeds of independence.
These units are found within our Entry Level Award in Independent Living (Leisure Activities) and Entry Level Certificate in Independent Living (Living in the Community).
What Learners Will Gain
Our Gardening for Pleasure units provides Entry Level learners 3 credits and 30 Guided Learning Hours (GLH) while developing practical gardening skills.
At Entry 1, learners begin by recognising two plants, identifying the equipment needed for planting, understanding where and how to plant, and learning how to clean and care for gardening equipment.
By Entry 3, learners build on these foundations by developing a broader understanding of plant recognition, including the differences between plants and weeds. Their learning is further extended through gaining knowledge of how to care for plants after planting.

Why Offer These Units?
The Entry Level Award in Independent Living qualifications help learners develop important life and learning skills. They are nested qualifications, so credits achieved for an Award can be used towards a Certificate. These qualifications are suitable for learners with learning difficulties or disabilities and are open to any age group.
Gardening is known for its health and wellbeing benefits including stress reduction, mindfulness and a sense of achievement. These units are ideal to help your learners' grow confidence and lifelong skills.
How To Offer These Units
To deliver these units, your organisation must be a LASER Approved Centre. If you are not yet approved, we welcome new applications, visit our Becoming a LASER Centre page. If you're already an Approved Centre, simply submit a New Course Notification Form before delivery.
📞 If you have any questions or would like any further information please get in touch and we can support your learner’s growth together.
