Qualification Focus: First Aid Qualifications
At LASER we transform people’s lives by the recognition of their learning and achievement....
We have a range of e-learning courses to:
Support your Access students to supplement or replace some classroom teaching
Provide a 100% distance or as a blended learning offer for students not enrolled on classroom-based Access courses
Transfer students needing to leave their classroom course for unexpected reasons to the online course.
All our e-learning courses are available to approved LASER Access to HE centres at no extra cost! Our goal is to encourage as many Access students as possible across all our centres to utilise these e-learning courses. We aim to provide flexible learning options available for centres that complement classroom provision and enhance the overall education experience.
To express an interest and get a free trial of the courses, please email Sue Watson (Head of Access) at accessenquiries@laser-awards.org.uk
We use a cloud-based online platform called Znanja to host our e-learning courses.
By arrangement we can export e-learning courses to a college Moodle system.
We have a range of e-learning courses which are mapped to specific Access Units available for academic subjects.
Each course can be used to supplement class-based teaching as part of a ‘blended’ offer or could be used as a standalone part of an Access course.
LASER Access Units are available for each of the courses and assignment briefs are provided to enable students to achieve credits for the units if desired.
Tutors in colleges will mark and provide feedback for assignments leading to the award of credit, just the same as for learners in classroom-based Access courses.

This suite of online courses has been developed to support Access to HE students to improve their study skills to further develop their written skills in preparation for both succeeding on their Access courses and in making the transition to study in higher education.
They can be used to achieve Level 2 or Level 3 units or can be used as standalone courses. Sample assignments for the units are also available.
Centres can choose from a range of short study skills courses specifically developed by LASER for Access learners, as well as a range of introductory courses for beginners in using Microsoft Word and Excel.

A fully online Access to HE Diploma in Healthcare Professions is available as a 100% distance learning course (if desired), alternatively this would be used as the basis for a blended offer, incorporating a range of units across biology, health, psychology and sociology.
The course remains in the control of the Access team in your centre, who will act as online tutors and assessors. LASER will externally moderate and quality assure the students’ work in the usual way.
Where a course is delivered either entirely or nearly all via distance learning, a college/Access centre will be required to submit a short approval application to LASER to demonstrate that there are the proper resources in place to support this type of provision.
