Access Practitioner Group (APG) Meetings provide an opportunity for staff working in colleges as tutors and managers to come together and share views and discuss best practice across the region. Your LASER Access Officers are also present and we try to have a lead theme for each meeting. We hold APGs in the Autumn and Spring terms and we hold them at a least four separate venues across the region to ensure that colleagues are able to attend at least one.
For each meeting a discussion document is produced and this can be downloaded from the Resource Bank (login by clicking the button top right).
We would like to encourage as many members as possible of Access teams to come to each meeting. They provide a valuable staff development opportunity and there is no fee for attendance.
The LASER 2017 annual Access Conference event will be held on Friday 7 July from 10am until 4pm at Woburn House, 20-24 Tavistock Square, London, WC1H 9HQ
This year’s conference title is: "Access to HE in an age of uncertainty".
Following on from last year’s highly entertaining and informative presentation, Nic Dakin MP has agreed to come back to the conference to update us on how things have changed over the last year – with the general election looming this is not to be missed!
There will be an update on the National Collaborative Outreach Programme, the new programme aiming to increase the number of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds in higher education by 2020, and, as usual, we will be presenting the LASER Student Access Prizes.
In addition we will be running 2 workshop sessions during the day – you can choose 2 from the following 3 topics to join workshops on:
- Blended Learning
- Marketing Access to HE or
- The Impact of Social Class on Access Learners
£60 Earlybird booking fee (forms MUST be received no later than 31st May 2017)
£75 Standard delegate fee (forms received after 31st May 2017)
£225 Centre rate (pay for 3 places get one extra free) *please note this offer cannot be combined with the Earlybird booking fee
Fees include all day access to the event, conference papers, lunch & refreshments
LASER has developed assessment and grading training for tutors. The training is available to be delivered onsite as a half day session for £250 including training packs pre-prepared for each staff member attending. All you need to provide is a suitable room and refreshments.
During the session the Access Quality Manager will work with teaching staff to:
1. Confirm a common approach to assessment, using existing support materials available from LASER.
2. Share good practice and identify key areas for development within the team in order to develop a clear and standardised approach to the use of grading in assessment.
3. Review the centre’s current Access course assessment regulations, with a specific focus on grading and re-submissions, to ensure consistency of approach.
